Intermediate computer proficiency courses are designed for individuals who already have good understanding of technology. Participants will build upon their skills by learning how to use a variety of resources, including learning apps, Microsoft 365 apps, and photo and video editing platforms.
Many educators find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer breadth and complexity of available digital tools, particularly those related to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Schools, teachers, and students alike require comprehensive guidance to navigate this digital terrain effectively.
This course will introduce participants to the variety of AI in education, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to harness the potential of AI tools and technologies in the classroom.
Participants will explore a variety of topics, from understanding the foundational principles of AI to crafting efficient prompts and designing differentiated lesson materials that promote 21st-century competencies.
During the course, participants will engage in activities such as defining and understanding AI in education, exploring diverse AI applications across different subjects, and cultivating critical thinking skills to ethically utilize AI and prevent bias.
They will also delve into practical techniques for implementing AI tools and technologies in the classroom, fostering creativity and innovation through hands-on activities.
By the end of the course, participants will emerge with a refined understanding of AI in education, equipped with practical insights and strategies to seamlessly integrate AI tools into their teaching practice.
They will be empowered to rethink assessment strategies in light of AI-enabled learning environments, ultimately preparing themselves and their students for success in the digital era and the future job market.

The course will help the participants to:
- Understand the foundational principles of AI in education and articulate its significance in contemporary teaching methods;
- Analyze and address ethical concerns related to the use of AI tools in educational settings, fostering a responsible approach to technology integration;
- Explore diverse AI applications across different subjects and contexts, from teacher’s assistants to student tutors, and understand how to effectively integrate them into classroom activities;
- Design differentiated lesson materials that promote 21st-century competencies and foster student engagement and collaboration using AI technologies;
- Implement practical techniques for utilizing AI tools such as Teachable Machine and Poe in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning experiences;
- Critically evaluate the potential of AI tools to improve learning outcomes while identifying and addressing challenges they might pose;
- Cultivate critical thinking skills to ethically utilize AI and prevent bias, particularly in the context of media literacy;
- Foster creativity and innovation through the integration of AI tools into lesson planning and hands-on activities, utilizing platforms such as Google Arts & Culture, DALL.E, and Suno.ai;
- Rethink assessment strategies in light of AI-enabled learning environments, empowering teachers to become confident facilitators of AI-enabled classrooms;
- Engage in course evaluation, reflecting on acquired competencies, providing feedback, and participating in discussions to enhance future iterations.
Tentative schedule
Day 1 – Introduction to the course
- Introduction to the course, the school, and the external week activities;
- Icebreaker activities;
- Presentations of the participants’ schools;
- Defining and understanding AI in Education;
- Ethics and concerns related to general AI use.
Day 2 – Exploring chatbots and beyond
- Overview of Chatbots across different subjects (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini): from teacher’s assistant to student’s tutor (Khanmigo).
- Crafting efficient prompts, and designing differentiated lesson materials that promote 21st-century competencies;
- Practical techniques for implementing AI tools and technologies in the classroom (Teachable Machine, Poe).
Day 3 – Leveraging potential, addressing challenges, and improving creativity
- Take a deep dive into the potential of AI tools: consider how they could improve learning, as well as identify any challenges they might pose;
- Cultivate critical thinking skills (Thinking Routines) to ethically utilize AI and prevent misinformation with Conker and Question Well (Media Literacy);
- Foster creativity and innovation through AI integration: hands-on activities (Google Arts&Culture, DALL.E, Suno.ai)
Day 4 – Focus on assessment and the future
- Rethinking Assessment in Times of AI (Quizizz, Diffit);
- Empower teachers to become confident facilitators of AI-enabled learning environments, preparing students for the future job market.
Day 5 – Final steps
- Discussion: final project.
Day 6 – Course closure and cultural activities
- Course evaluation: round-up of acquired competencies, feedback, and discussion;
- Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance;
- Excursion and other external cultural activities.
