AI Ethics and Bias: Diversity, Inclusion, and Representation in AI Tools

Description

Concept by Maja Balcerzyk

Intermediate Computer Proficiency required. Read more »

Intermediate computer proficiency courses are designed for individuals who already have good understanding of technology. Participants will build upon their skills by learning how to use a variety of resources, including learning apps, Microsoft 365 apps, and photo and video editing platforms.

Addressing bias in AI algorithms, student cheating, privacy concerns, overreliance on technology, lack of representation (gender, age, ethnicity, abilities), and equity issues is crucial.

In today’s educational landscape, Artificial Intelligence has become an indispensable tool. However, AI, like its human creators, is susceptible to errors and biases.

Teachers and learners need to understand the inherent bias that lurks in the databases and algorithms.

This course delves into various AI-powered tools to enhance your classes, ensuring inclusivity by catering to diverse student needs. It enables participants to identify and address biases by crafting more effective prompts and commands, ensuring that generated texts and images are truly representative.

Participants will learn how to use AI-powered tools to create customized activities for individual students and adapt existing school materials for better accessibility. Additionally, they will learn how to produce texts quickly and efficiently to correct and enhance students’ writing and use them to spot cheating and plagiarism.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to better integrate AI-powered tools into their everyday teaching, understand their potential, and limitations, and how to address any associated drawbacks and learn to overcome them.
