Description
Primary school teachers face increasing challenges today when managing their students: reduced attention span, emotional reactivity, and high levels of stress… these are just some of the factors.
Fast-paced routines, constant stimulation, and growing emotional demands can make it difficult for children to stay focused, calm, and ready to learn throughout the school day.
Dealing with these dynamics while maintaining a supportive learning environment can be difficult. Both teachers and students are also constantly exposed to all kinds of stimuli.
Learning how to pause, breathe, feel, and calm a busy mind becomes an essential skill.
This course introduces practical mindfulness strategies specifically designed for Primary education, and it will be organized around five key areas: breath; body awareness; thoughts; emotions; mindful movement.
Participants will explore simple, child-friendly activities that can be naturally integrated into everyday classroom routines to help children develop greater focus, self-awareness, emotional awareness, and calm.
They will gain key skills in managing classroom stress, improving student attention and wellbeing, and responding more effectively to challenging situations.
With no need for previous mindfulness experience, participants will learn how to create a calmer, more focused, and more positive learning environment.
Mindfulness will not be presented only as a theoretical concept. Instead, a practical and experiential (and yet realistic) approach will be adopted in this course, as the focus will be on simple activities teachers can immediately apply in their classrooms: breathing exercises; mindful movement; grounding activities; attention and listening games; emotional awareness activities; short guided practices for transitions and stressful moments.
Throughout the week, participants will experience first-hand how mindfulness practices can support concentration and learning readiness; classroom climate and relationships; stress management and emotional wellbeing for both them and their students.
Together, they will reflect on how to adapt them for children aged 5-12 in age-appropriate ways, making those practices accessible, playful, and most importantly sustainable within real school contexts.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a practical mindfulness toolbox for primary classrooms.
They will feel confident introducing short mindful activities during transitions, moments of agitation, after breaks or before tests, helping children create healthier relationships with attention, emotions and learning.
