Description

The Spanish educational system includes ten years of compulsory education, children start primary school at the age of six, ending at the age of sixteen. The educational system in Spain has some particularities and differences in language teaching education, depending on the area. In fact, in Catalonia the teaching language is Catalan and in the rest of Spain, the language is traditional Spanish. Nonetheless, in Catalonia, Spanish may be used by Spanish literature teachers and foreign languages.

During this course, you will have the chance to get to know the Catalan educational system in detail. You will visit Catalan schools and institutes, you will watch teacher’s lessons and there will be a discussion with headmasters, teachers and students about school life and the Catalan educational system. There may be possibilities to make connections between principals and participants during school visits to initiate future Erasmus+ projects. In addition, we will provide you with lectures and workshops to prepare for the visits, focussing on the Catalan educational system, culture and history.

Learning outcomes

The course will help the participants learn and enhance their knowledge about the Catalan educational system, daily school life and the Spanish civilization. An important aim of the course is to facilitate experience and cultural exchange between European participants and Spanish staff, leading to a truly international experience.
