Leadership Competencies and Skills for Teachers

Table of Contents

Description

“School leadership”… what does come to your mind in reading these words? As a teacher, you might think about the hierarchy of authority in your school, with the principal standing at the top. Leadership, however, has multiple meanings and refers to the other levels of the pyramid as well.

Through the course, participants will reinforce and improve leadership skills that school teachers put into practice every day more or less consciously.

School teachers are indeed true leaders in many respects – and without them being often acknowledged for that. They define a model of adult personality for pupils and students, tutor and coach them. They also interact with families and are the most familiar representatives of the school within the social community.

Moreover, school teachers often coordinate the work of other colleagues, and mentor the younger ones. Finally, they promote innovation in the school and support organizational change.

Have you ever reflected upon many of these leadership competencies you practice every day while acting in these settings? Would you like to receive professional updating and scaffolding on improving them?

During the course, participants will discover the different leadership and personality styles and will know the mechanisms for using constructive feedback.

Also, they will practice brainstorming and group working activities to use in the classroom. During the week, different ICT scenarios will be discussed and there will be activities with the best tools to use with students.

By the end of the course, participants will be aware of their role as leaders and teachers, and confident in endorsing it completely to raise success and motivation in their daily work.

NOTE: The course originates from the European project “Teachers – Leaders – Teachers as Leaders and Trendsetters of Changing” (2018 – 2021), and is intended for school teachers.
